  15. To ANYONE who knows something about modems:

  17. I've been operating with a "Generic" no name internal 14.4 fax/modem for 
  18. the past couple of years.  As far as I know, (Modem Novice that I am), it 
  19. has worked fine accessing the WWW, send/receive faxing, etc. using 
  20. QuickLink II fax S/R for Windows.  I am now ready to upgrade to a 28.8 
  21. and would like some advise as to what to look for in a purchase. (specs, 
  22. etc.) I want to stay with an internal card, and cannot afford to spend 
  23. over $100.  Fry Electronics here in So. Calif. is advertising a 28.8 for 
  24. $99.99 (internal fax/modem, V34, V42./MNP 2.4, V.42 bis/MNP 5 & 10 
  25. hardware, Delrina WinFax S/W for Windows/DOS) Don't know what all that 
  26. stuff means.  My needs are rather simple (max speed accessing the WWW and 
  27. S/R faxing) but I've seen some adds regarding built in answering 
  28. mcahines?? How does that work and is it worth it as I already have an 
  29. answering machine. (would this alert me to an incoming call when I'm 
  30. online??)
